Every morning from the end of the school year until the middle of July, the Timarron Bent Creek Pool is alive with young swimmers from our Timarron Neighborhoods. Over 220 of these young swimmers, ages 5 to 16, learn the basics of competitive swimming and get the chance to represent the Timarron Tiger Sharks Swim Team in competition at the Carroll Aquatics Center each summer.
For the past 11 years, Sonia Leonard, a Southlake resident and full time real estate agent, has sponsored and directed the Timarron Tiger Sharks growing it from 70 to over 220 swimmers. You can find her most mornings at the practices, and every Wednesday at the swim meets, taking an active role as sponsor and director for the team
Coach Kevin Murphy, Head Coach for the Southlake Carroll High School Swim Team, is also the Head Coach for the Timarron Tiger Sharks and staffs his coaching team with college-age assistant coaches from among his former All-American and All-State Carroll Dragon High School swim team.
In conjunction with learn-to-swim lessons at the Bent Creek Pool, hundreds of youngsters from Timarron and Southlake have had the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of improving their swimming and learning to work and compete in this great sport, America’s #1 Olympic Sport. Some of our Tiger Shark kids say “it is the most fun they have ever had at the pool!” and a number of former Timarron Tiger Shark swimmers have gone on to be state-ranked age group swimmers and Varsity and JV Carroll Dragon swimmers.
The Tiger Sharks compete as part of the Tarrant County Summer Swim League, comprised of four summer-league teams from Southlake and Keller. The League is sponsored and directed by the North Texas Nadadores, a USA Swim Team, operating out of the Carroll Aquatics Center. The Timarron Tiger Sharks have been crowned “Champions” of the League 6 of the past 9 years.
